Why do we need to keep renewing our skills?
When an individual starts out on his own, he usually has several years of experience in ICT and is competent in his field. As an employee, they realise the value of their skills on the market; they jump at an opportunity and start consulting. If he succeeds in proving himself, all is well, colleagues and/or clients refer him to new clients and the wheel turns.
The consultant surfs on his initial knowledge. However, as ICT is constantly evolving, the day comes when :
- The consultant is bored in his mandates
- His skills are less in demand
- His/her skills are completely obsolete
